Livingston home sales fall while area climbs

Home sales climbed in all but one Metro Detroit county in July, compared with the same month last year, according to a report released Tuesday by Realcomp, a Farmington Hills-based multiple listing service.

The data reflects a positive -- albeit slight -- upturn in the region's sluggish real estate market, where many homeowners have been struggling for months to sell their homes.

Overall, new and existing home sales were up 2.8 percent in July, compared with the same month in 2006, with 4,723 homes being sold, Realcomp reported.

Among the four Metro Detroit counties, only Livingston County saw a sales decline.

Realcomp said 148 homes were sold in Livingston County, down from 178 in July 2006, a 16.9 percent decrease.

  • In Wayne County, 1,580 homes sold last month, up from 1,506 in July 2006, a 4.9 percent increase.

  • In Oakland County, 1,209 homes sold, up from 1,150 in July 2006, a 5.1 percent increase.

  • In Macomb County, 601 homes sold, up from 581 in July 2006, a 3.4 percent increase.
